Family Talk
By Dave Phillips
Today is a beautiful day! It is beautiful because we gather to worship a wonderful God who blesses beyond measure. If there ever was a promise in the Bible that is worth noting, it must be that the blessings of God are intended for all who believe and love His appearing. One of the ways we show our love for God is by showing love for His people, the church. Your attendance this morning and this evening reflects your intention to build up the church, which is the body of Christ. Thank you for being a part of our assembly. You’ve helped build us up by your joining us as we worship God.
One week from today, Lord willing, several of us will be in Athens, Greece as we follow the path of the apostle Paul through cities and villages, coasts and oceans we have read about in the Bible for years. I’m glad to be able to visit with Alfred and Deanna Zike, our missionaries in Greece. They work with a fine team of brothers and sisters who are dedicated to sharing the word of God from so many parts of the world that make their way through Athens. Some are ’passing through’ while others are moving there to begin their lives again. Our son, Andrew, and I are bringing a group made of Memphians and others from Middle Tennessee. Please pray for safe travels. Andrew and I are planning to be there next Sunday, where I am scheduled to speak, and the entire group will be there on September 6, when Andrew will speak. Please pray for our safe travel.
Here is a date you surely need to have on your calendar. The annual church picnic, hosted by Lynn and Mona Patterson, will take place on Saturday, September 12. The food and fellowship is always wonderful, but you simply must sign up on the credenza in South hall or in the Adult Bible classes by September 9 so that enough food can be ordered. Two more dates are September 13 and 27. On the 13th, Ralph Gilmore will be speaking at all of our services. Ralph has been here in years past and is always well received. The Area-Wide Journey of Faith will be on September 27 at our building. Our speakers will be Michael Jackson, from the Boulevard church of Christ and Tim Alsup, from the Great Oaks church of Christ.
