Family Talk

By JP Wamble

I consider myself a pretty big movie fan. I enjoy the “classics” like Old Yeller and Swiss Family Robinson, and I also love the contemporaries like The Dark Knight or Interstellar.

One of my all-time favorites is Finding Nemo. In case you haven’t seen it, spoilers are ahead. A small clownfish, Nemo, is taken from his reef by divers; his father, Marlin sets out across the ocean in a relentless pursuit to Find Nemo. I don’t want to give anything away, but it is in the title.

Why do I bring this up? Well, just like Marlin set off across the sea to find his son, God has done the same for us. God has searched for us, found us, and brought us home into his family.

Ezekiel 34:1-12 says, “For this is what the Sovereign Lord says: I myself will search for my sheep and look after them. As a shepherd looks after his scattered flock when he is with them, so will I look after my sheep. I will rescue them from all the places where they were scattered on a day of clouds and darkness.”

I am so grateful that we have been found. That’s a lot of love that God has shown to us-so much that we should be called his children (1 John 3:1)! What an incredible blessing.

We have a lot of great opportunities here at Germantown. Will we take them head on and do our best? Will we search and find those jobs, just as God has searched and found us? I pray the answer is a resounding “yes!”
