Curse God and Die

Are you discouraged?

There is a story of an affluent man by the name of Job, and his wife, who had a family that absolutely loved being together. One day – through a series of major catastrophes – this couple lost everything they cherished. And I mean everything – including the loss of all their children.

Then Job became very sick with a painful, grotesque disease. In utter futility, Job’s wife said, “Why don’t you just curse God and die.” Oh, so discouraged. Job said, “You speak as one of the foolish women.” 

Then Job’s friends show up and take turns scolding him for actions in his life they are certain caused his calamity.  Finally, God speaks. By forcing Job to consider the magnificent world that God created – things we see - Job came to recognize God’s awesome power. And he was encouraged.
