Family Talk

By Dave Phillips

Life keeps changing, doesn’t it? In many ways, I’m glad. If variety is the spice of life, then we should be enjoying a fine seasoning of our lives. The methods of communication keep evolving, the focus of our attention has expanded from local to global, and the personal interaction has expanded beyond our neighborhoods. We need to be well-grounded in God’s word in order to be able to manage the stress between ‘pushing for every change imaginable’ to ‘maintaining that which has always been true.’ This stress impacts our families, churches and schools.

With those thoughts in mind, I am so glad that our elders have deemed that each school year, we will be praying for our children and teachers, in particular, and focusing our attention on all of us as we enter the next chapter of our lives. You may have forgotten what it was like going into a new grade level, with new teachers, schoolmates, subject areas and new people, but our children have not. Some are elated while others face a significant challenge. It is not their fault. It is their personality. Teachers will face a new class. Administration will face new challenges. Parents will be just as concerned as anyone as to what happens. Yes ma’am, we need to pray. We will be on Sunday morning. Let’s keep praying every day - for everyone involved.

Our Mission Sunday is next week! Leslie Williams be speaking at our morning service and reports from various mission points (that the church as a whole support) will be a part of the Bible class time. On Sunday evening, Eddie Lewis will give a final wrap/update on the Mississippi work and lead us in a devotional. It is good that we have a congregation so supportive of missions, an eldership that commits itself to overseeing the various works in our budget (agreed-upon plan of spending for the year), and a mission committee that does it’s due diligence in researching and supporting the individual missionaries behind the scenes.
