Family Talk

By Dave Phillips

It was good to worship together on Sunday, as we remembered the weekly memorial to Jesus Christ as a part of our worship service. It is always a pleasure to be able to gather with our spiritual family to praise His name in song, study from His word, pray to Him in a united way, to contribute to the continuance of our congregational efforts, and to remember His sacrifice on the cross. That may seem like such a commonplace event that we take for granted. But in the eyes of God, our worship of Him-in His presence-is no trivial event.

I’m so glad we have so many aspects to our mission work in our congregation. For example, the recent Sunday evening report on the teens trip to Chattanooga was very encouraging. Planting the seed of evangelism is an important task and I am glad that this congregation has not only been doing it for many years, but in recent years has expanded it to parts of the world that has never before been a part of our collective efforts. Our teens were able to complete this ‘domestic work’ in great fashion. Whether it is Ukraine, Greece, Canada, India, PNG, northern Mississippi, or the Greater Memphis area, we have an obligation to strengthen those efforts to help serve God faithfully. We are grateful for everyone and their encouragement in these works.

In several weeks now, there will be a group of us traveling to visit the cities in Greece where the apostle Paul worked. As apart of our trip, we have planned to worship at the Glyfada congregation. We look forward to spending a little time with Alfred and Deanna Zike. I’ll have a little more time with them before the group arrives. But we remain so interested in what is happening through their work with so many others in that bustling city. Let’s continue to pray for each of them-and for each of us-as we seek to share the good news of Jesus with others!
