Family Talk

By Dave Phillips

Our Summer Series continues to do exactly what we want it to do. We are having excellent lessons presented from area preachers and our teachers are getting a respite from teaching - and are preparing for teaching upcoming classes in the fall. I don’t know if I can stress enough how helpful it is to participate in the larger scene in Memphis. Of course, the entire world is a mission zone, including Germantown. But the greater Memphis area is certainly in need of more opportunities for congregations to encourage one another. The Summer Series is one way of letting area congregations know that we are not just focused on our area, but rather are a part of a larger group of people committed to living the will of God out in their lives. Judging by the numbers of favorable comments from members of this congregation, we are accomplishing those objectives.

Another activity that has been and continues to be a success is our area-wide worship service. As I have had the privilege of being invited to other congregations, I frequently hear people say they regularly attend and look forward to our area-wide service. The next service is scheduled for September 27, so be sure and mark your calendar for that evening. We regularly have visiting Christians from other congregations, but we too have guests who are not familiar with our fellowship who have come and have told me personally that they enjoyed the worship service. This is usually followed up with questions about why we worship the way that we do. It turns into an opportunity for evangelism.

We also are having a good summer for our youth program. JP, the interns and adult helpers are maintaining a purposefully busy schedule which keeps teens and helpers in a constant state of preparation. Lori Duncan and her intern, McKinley Anderson, are also constantly working with Grace Land, which is growing in number and interest. Please pray for all these efforts to magnify the name of Jesus Christ.
