outreach

missions and ministries to help the hurting, love the lost, and encourage the encumbered
The Gospel is the saving work of God in Christ for the world, and it is our call and privilege to join in the work of God's kingdom in word and deed.

Outreach is crucial to who (and whose) we are. It's goes beyond evangelism (not short of it), and includes benevolence and support of many other good works. We seek to be ambassadors of God's love and his will at home, domestically, and abroad.

Check out the 'Other Ministries' page to see other outreach efforts going on.

MISSIONS: CANADA AND THE WILLIAMS FAMILY

After nine plus years of a very successful mission effort in Alotau, Papau New Guinea the Germantown church is now supporting the Williams family in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada. Leslie is working with the Northwest Church of Christ in Regina and the surrounding congregations.

MISSIONS: UKRAINE AND THE MALUGA FAMILY

Beginning in 2008, Germantown has supported the Maluga family in Donetsk, Ukraine. We partner financially, but also in trips, medicines, clothing, and many other needs in the area. Sasha and Natasha both work at the Ukrainian Bible Institute. Sasha is an Instructor and the Dean of Students, and also preaches for the Budjonevsky Church of Christ in Ukraine.

MISSIONS: NORTH MISSISSIPPI AND THE LEWIS FAMILY

After retiring from his role as Germantown's Education Minister at the end of 2012, Eddie Lewis began a new work ministering to rural churches in North Mississippi. Every Sunday, Eddie is our ambassador of good will and encouragement to our brothers and sisters in Northern Mississippi.

bMISSION: MEMPHIS

Germantown is committed to live out God's call for the world in the city of Memphis and the Shelby county area.

We partner with local congregations (especially Midtown and Raleigh Springs) by supporting financially in efforts, as well as, worshiping and serving alongside Christians from around the city.  We are building a presence in local elementary schools, homes, and among the homeless. Also see what the GYG is doing with SERVE Memphis.

SHORT TERM MISSIONS

Many of our members are involved in mission campaigns every year. Areas where our members have gone include (but are not limited to) China, Cuba, Ghana, Honduras, Ireland, Mozambique, Panama, Peru, Honduras, Scotland, and various locations within the United States.

Each summer our GYG also takes a domestic campaign trip to serve and teach.

COMMUNITY EVENTS AND EFFORTS

Our members, ministers, and facility are constantly devoted to serving and reaching out to our community. Our annual VBS, Trunk and Treat, and Breakfast with Santa events serve the children of our area. The ladies in our "Heirloom Stitchers" group have knitted hundreds of blankets and caps for babies in the Neonatal Unit at Germantown Methodist Hospital. Every Thursday morning a Toastmasters Club meets in our building. Every month the Nashoba HAM Radio Club meets in our fellowship hall on the second Monday night. On the second and fourth Monday nights of every month a Career Transition Group meets in our building. At least twice each year, we host a two-day Driver Safety Training Class for senior adults. For ten years, Germantown Safety City, a week long Safety Camp for young children, was help on our campus. Click this link for more information about our Preschool. In August of each year, we host the annual dinner meeting of the Oakleigh Neighborhood Association. We have hosted dinners honoring veterans and fist responders. In July of 2017, we hosted a children's workshop for the Germantown Community Theater. On September 9-10, 2017 we will provide a shuttle stop on our parking lot during the Germantown Festival.

One of the most fruitful ministries we have is our Giving Garden. Members have devoted themselves to growing these plants and God has provided the increase. This produce is given to those in need and to local pantries. The flowers are taken to those who are ill in local hospitals or at home.

Jesus said "Love God and love people" (Matthew 22:37-39). That's what we are trying to do at the Germantown church of Christ.
