If Only We Could Know
It is so easy to walk through life, so focused on our present problems that we never think about deeper, spiritual issues. If only we could know…
The Bible tells of Jesus meeting a woman at a well outside a Samaritan city. He was tired – sitting, leaning back against the well. Others had gone into the city to get food. Jesus said to the woman, “Give me a drink.”
She said, “Why would a Jew ask a Samaritan for a drink of water. Jesus said, “If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who says to you, Give Me a drink, you would have asked him, and He would have given you living water.”
Of course, this woman was thinking ‘drinking water.’ He was thinking ‘living water.’ She was thinking – ‘where is your bucket?’ He was thinking – ‘where is your focus?’ A long exchange takes place – but finally, she understands. With new insights, she runs back to the city – without her bucket – but with a new lease on life.
If only we could know…
