Don’t Call Me That

Do you remember how someone calling you a name at school would upset your entire day? Oh, we would run home and tell our parents – our grandparents – anyone that would listen what an awful name we were called.

I’ll tell you a name that some people don’t like to be called – and yet, if we thought about it – we would all want to identify with. It’s the name saint. Some would hurry to say, “Don’t call me a saint! People will think that I’m claiming perfection – and I’m not perfect.”

But, stop and think about that for a minute. The word saint simply means “a holy one.” Doesn’t sound much better, does it? But, the word holy simply means one who is set apart. He’s different. She’s selected. And in the case of holiness – one who is set apart by God. Before you say, don’t call me a saint – remember that God is the one who blesses those who are set apart.

The Bible is the only place that tells us how to be set apart.
