Is this where you want to be?
Commitment. How long has it been since you’ve seen it? There is a story of a man with an unusual name and an unique sense of commitment.
King David was under attack – from his own family nonetheless – his own son - and he was running in the wilderness. 600 men joined David just one day before he was attacked - all serving under the leadership of Ittai. Imagine what their response could have been.
“What have we gotten ourselves into?”
“This isn’t our fight!”
“It’s a family quarrel that’s turned ugly!”
David understood this. He turned to Ittai and said, “Why are you fighting with us? You are a foreigner and an exile. You and your brothers turn back and all will be well. I wish for you the very best.”
Ittai’s response is remarkable. He said, “Whether I live or die, wherever you are, O King, that is where I’ll be.”
Now, that’s commitment.
