Family Talk

For the past two weeks, we have been catching a glimpse of what has been happening with Lads to Leaders (L2L). Obviously, there is no way to know for certain how much a young person or a helper has been encouraged by his/her efforts in any of these works. Some evidence of their results has been seen openly, but there are many parts of this effort that are seen ‘behind the scenes.’ Articles written, video presentations prepared and sent for observation, service projects that have been completed or even memory verses that have been memorized and been repeated to trustworthy study helpers. These should never be forgotten to add to the list of song leaders and speakers in a more public setting. We will hear more about their specific efforts next Sunday night at the L2L Recognition Night, which follows our evening worship.
One of the many advantages of the L2L program being on Easter Weekend is that it allows the Opryland Hotel to offer a reduced rate on a weekend that is normally not previously booked for other events. This has always been an great opportunity for many people to come and assemble, associating with people that are involved in so many activities (the list of events keeps growing) and come home to realize the church is much larger than the Germantown congregation. One of the disadvantages of the L2L convention being slated on Easter Weekend is that it takes so many of our folks away from Memphis to Nashville for the Sunday morning worship. That leads to visitors thinking that we are not as large a congregation as we are. I’m not saying everyone should drive home on Saturday night. I did that for many years, staying for the awards assembly on Saturday night and driving to the early hours of Sunday and then getting to preach on Sunday morning. I wouldn’t recommend it. We are so blessed to have many opportunities to grow in our spiritual walk at Germantown.
