Family Talk

By Dave Phillips

Happy Mothers Day! It is a beautiful time for us to pause and remember our mothers. Mother’s Day is not a biblical day, but the concept of nurturing and encouraging mothers is certainly taught in the Bible, either explicitly or implicitly. Regardless, we know that we are fortunate to have had mothers who cared for us and instructed us more carefully about the will of God in our lives. We are better people when we have been led to know Jesus Christ as our Lord. So, happy Mothers Day! (Father’s Day is coming up!)

It has been my privilege to have a part with Ukrainian Bible Institute again this year, teaching a class on Jeremiah for a 3 week time frame every morning from 6 am to 8:15 am on Monday through Thursday. This is 2:00 pm to 4:15 pm in Kiev, and for most of the countries from which these students are joining us. (Below are two pictures of some of our students)

Sasha Maliuga teaches a class on the Minor Prophets in the morning session and I led the afternoon session on the book of Jeremiah. We have 19 students in class, the largest number of students that I’ve had in a ZOOM class yet. Many are first generation Christians, ranging from being in the Lord for one year - to the longest time being 29 years. Germantown has been involved in the work from the beginning. I still have memories of my first trip to Ukraine in 2005. Bob Brewer “showed me the ropes” and visited churches and prospects on that first trip. He was ‘on-task’ from the moment we landed until the time we returned. It was to be his last trip to Ukraine, but the work that he helped establish lives on. Praise God and thank you to Germantown (and other congregations in the Memphis area) that worked together to make it a productive field of evangelism.
