Family Talk

By Dave Phillips

The life of a church family is about like the lives of our individual families, isn’t it? What we face on an individual basis is usually reflected in what we face collectively. Such was the case last Sunday when Joe Roth mentioned needs for prayer during their family crisis, a crisis that reached over a period of two weekends, when an unexpected death was followed by the death of four others coming home from the funeral. I hope you took the time to pray for each of the members of the Roth and Moffatt families over the week.

We also have a long list of people for whom we are prayerful - each just as deserving of our specific and intense prayers as they also manager crises or long-term challenges. I’m glad we serve a God who knows us personally and wants us to pray to Him. The book of James is filled with instructions on the manner of our prayers (prayed in faith) and the encouragement to pray (confess your faults one to another and pray for one another that you may be healed). This is reflected in this spiritual family at Germantown. I’m so glad.

I’m sorry we will miss the Senior Recognition Night this week. We are out of town visiting our children and grand- children as our oldest grandson graduates high school. Like every grandparent, we are proud of Luke at this single moment in his life. We are also so proud of our young people at Germantown. I know you are thankful for the good work that JP is doing with them and the way they look out for each other. We all need encouragement. I hope you take the time to encourage our 14 graduates this Sunday night.

Please pray for our UBI class these next three weeks. Our online classes are from May 4-21, from 6 am - 8:15 am (CST) on the book of Jeremiah. I’ll keep you informed, but I long to return to Ukraine to see how Sasha and Natasha Maliuga have blessed the lives of so many. Let’s keep praying for them daily. God answers prayer, so let’s pray.
