Family Talk
By Dave Phillips
We have so much for which to be grateful. We are now so focused on preparing for a season of festivity, namely our upcoming “Festi-Fall,” that it is easy to get lost in the fun that we forget the reason for giving out candy from the trunks of our cars. We want to find a way to compliment little children - on their costumes, on the sweet way they ask for candy, and give them an opportunity to say “thank you.” (Of course, I like to sneak some candy myself in between visits from children.) But, this is a good opportunity to have what some have called “presence evangelism” in our neighborhood. We will meet parents, grandparents, and siblings of hundreds of children, some who have never been in our building. If they can remember a nice smile and warm greeting, we are planting the seed for establishing a relationship. If you think that doesn’t happen, I can remember the neighbors of the houses around by my childhood home that I visited only while trick-or-treating. I remember the person, the smile, the ‘treat,’ and always felt like I was closer to them somehow. Well, that is what happens at “Trunk-and-Treat.” I also hope and pray that we have an opportunity to reach these children for the Lord one day. We must start somewhere. Let’s follow up on our associations.
Have you remembered to pray for Joseph, Lauren, Elise, Neely Jane, and Avery Horton? A great family! Let’s pray they can be welcomed to Germantown soon as a normal family (with all of the challenges that we all share) dedicated to living for God and serving Him along with the rest of us. We trust the transition will be a smooth one.
