Family Talk
By Dave Phillips
Our area-wide worship service is a rare opportunity for as many congregations in the Memphis area as do - to participate in a singular period of worship. I’m not sure how many congregations we had present, but I know we had more than 12 represented. As I reviewed just the people I met, I could identify that many congregations here, and I feel like there were more. The only negative occurrence was that I announced the date for next spring’s event as occurring on March 28. When we looked at the calendar, this seemed like a clear date. The reason? We didn’t have Easter Sunday on our calendar - and because there are so many of our people traveling back from the Lads to Leaders convention in Nashville at that time, it was not a good choice. We’ve rescheduled it for Sunday, April 18 at 5 pm. I hope you can mark it on your calendar and plan to be a part of an effort to build the church in the Memphis area. I call it “Mission Memphis,” but it is just one part of what God is doing in and around the city. Let’s build up the Lord’s church!
I would remind you that on Sunday nights, as we have for many years, we have sermons geared toward answering questions regarding our spiritual walk. This year, in conjunction with our Wednesday night auditorium class, I’m trying to couple a time to present material on the issues (on Sunday night) and have a class discussion on the same theme on Wednesday night. So, please place any questions (along with your name) you may have on the theme of “Things We Surely Believe” in the Sermon Suggestion Box in the foyer and I’ll address these. I ask that you put your name on the card along with your question in the event that I need more information on exactly what the question is. We’ll be limiting our questions for the first several weeks to ‘worship’ because that is the one event that all of us are participating in as a congregation. Thanks for your interest and your cooperation. We’ll learn as we go on how this can best be accomplished.
