I can’t sleep
You wouldn’t think that not being able to sleep at night would be a good thing. Oh, I know, if you have a newborn –you can not only justify it – maybe even brag about it some. But, normally we think that sleepless nights would make for a long next day.
That is – unless you ask two people in the Bible – one named Mordecai and the other named Daniel. I wish I had time to tell the whole story – you’d love it. But the shortened version is that because a king could not sleep at night, he picked up a history book to read and learned that a man named Mordecai had heroically saved his life. The next morning Mordecai was highly honored by the king.
And because another king had nightmares in his sleep, a prophet by the name of Daniel was allowed by God to interpret that dream for the king, earn his favor, and ultimately receive an appointment to royalty.
God works in mysterious ways – even when we can’t sleep.
