We Need Direction

The book of proverbs is a wonderful collection of wise sayings from ancient times. These are truisms – statements that are generally true. One of our favorites is “Where there is no vision, the people perish.”

Many businesses have adopted this as an indication that if you cannot see into the future – you are destined to fail. And I’m sure that’s true. It’s just – that’s not what the proverb says. The word “vision” in Prov. 29 is actually the word “revelation” – meaning some word that comes to us from God. The man of wisdom was saying that without a word from God (a revealed word) – the people are unrestrained – they have no control.

You can see that happening now. When we don’t know the will of God – we will have no direction in our lives. We will be unrestrained – and we will perish. One psalm states it plainly in speaking to God, “your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my way.” When we need direction in life, let’s listen to God.
