Take it Seriously

Have you ever heard anyone ask, “Why take the Bible so seriously?” I can love and serve God without ever studying the Bible!

Think about that for a minute. If it were not for the Bible telling us about God, how would we know anything about him? We would all just invent our own explanation – and invent our own God. But that wouldn’t make it true.

There is the story in the Bible of Jesus being led into the wilderness to be tempted by Satan. He had fasted for 40 days and nights. He was tired – and hungry. When Satan tempted Jesus with those things that should have been most desirable, Jesus answered each time by quoting Scriptures from the Old Testament. It wasn’t that Jesus couldn’t handle the temptation – he was showing us how to handle temptation.

Each time we are tempted – we remember the words of scripture that inform us of God’s will. You see – it’s God who takes his word seriously. So should we.
