The Most Dangerous Enemy We Will Face
One of the most dangerous, insidious enemies we’ll ever face is not a person at all – it is a response to events that we face. Now, you might be able to put some names to the events that we face. There is a story in the Bible of a man named Nehemiah that could do just that. He could have said, “My enemies are Sanballet, Tobiah and Geshem,” and he could have named several others.
But he didn’t. Actually, what he did was turn their names over to God then went about his business of rebuilding a wall around Jerusalem.
Nehemiah was shrewd enough to divide up his men – some building, some protecting, but what he did not do was allow the criticisms and threats of others to discourage him. He knew the most dangerous insidious enemy we will ever face is discouragement – the temptation to give up and give in.
He wouldn’t do it – would not allow his critics to stop his good work - and neither should we.
