Words We Desperately Need
Is there such a thing as old news?
Well, here’s some news – actually old news – but remarkably timely. It’s found in the book of Psalms in the Bible. You would be amazed at how appropriate these words are – and even more – how desperately we need them.
For example, one phrase continually reoccurs – “trust in the Lord.” It occurs again in the book of Proverbs – but particularly impressive is the way it is applied to handling worry when we feel like we are being used – or manipulated.
The 37th Psalm says, “Don’t worry about the wicked. Don’t envy those who do wrong. For like grass, they soon fade away. Like springtime flowers, they soon wither. Trust in the Lord and do good.”
Later in the psalm he says, “The wicked plot against the godly; they snarl at them in defiance. But the Lord just laughs, for he sees their day of judgment coming.” If God can smile while all this is happening, why can’t we?
Trust in the Lord – and do good.
