Family Talk

The autumn weather is here - and doesn’t it feel great? The cool mornings are followed by warm afternoons which calls for us to prepare for whatever happens during the day. This is a good indicator of what we are doing in life. We are trying our best to prepare for whatever comes our way.
Speaking of preparation, we are now preparing for Trunk and Treat, which will happen this afternoon. We are trying to make our presence known in the community, not by giving them candy, but by meeting our neighbors and getting to have the opportunity to greet these families. If we accomplish nothing more than for little children to see a smiling face as they are greeted in the area of our meeting house, there is a blessing. Perhaps they will want to stop by and worship. We have done that for several years and we have had guests to come as a result.
Another way we’ve been trying to reach into the community was a series of one minute radio spots that were broadcast on Memphis radio stations for several years. In fact, I ended up going to the studios and recording nearly 1000 radio spots (specifically 980, in case you think that is a preacher’s count), and we have even had people who placed membership here because of their introduction in that way. However, we now have moved money toward advertising in the Germantown magazine that is distributed to every home in the city of Germantown three times a year by the Germantown Chamber of Commerce. This is a high quality production and is a targeted approach to come visit.
Don’t forget our plans for “Shared Blessings” in which we work with the Midtown church and Raleigh Springs church to distribute food and invite to a Bible study. I’ll share more about this soon, but the effort has already resulted in an ongoing Saturday morning Bible class at the Raleigh Springs Church.
